~ A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada
The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) was established by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in July 1966, continuing the tradition of the Brahma-Madhva-Gaudiya sampradaya. Its teachings are rooted in the ancient Sanskrit text, the Bhagavad-gita, which is over 5,000 years old. ISKCON was guided personally by its Founder-Acarya, Srila Prabhupada, until his passing on November 14, 1977.
A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, born Abhay Charan De on September 1, 1896, was the founder-acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). An eminent spiritual leader, he dedicated his life to spreading the teachings of Lord Krishna as outlined in the Bhagavad-gita and other Vedic scriptures. In 1965, he traveled to the United States with the mission of sharing the message of Krishna Consciousness with the Western world, despite facing numerous challenges. His profound wisdom, compassion, and tireless efforts led to the establishment of ISKCON, which has grown into a global movement with temples and communities worldwide. Srila Prabhupada’s teachings emphasize devotion, spiritual practice, and the importance of a life centered around divine love and service.
